Passkeys are a secure and convenient way to log into accounts without using passwords. Instead, they rely on cryptographic keys stored in a password manager or on the device. SafeInCloud supports Passkeys on Android, allowing users to easily create, store, and use them for logging into websites and apps.
Passkeys setup
To set up Passkeys, follow these steps:
Ensure your device runs Android 14 or later, as third-party password managers like SafeInCloud can only store and use Passkeys starting from this version.
Update SafeInCloud to version 25.0.0 or later from Google Play.
Enable Autofill:
- Open device Settings.
- Go to Passwords, passkeys & accounts.
- Tap the Change button under Preferred service.
- Select SafeInCloud and confirm the change.
Passkeys usage
Creating a Passkey
To create a Passkey for a website or app:
- Navigate to a website or app that supports Passkeys (some websites/apps with Passkey support can be found here).
- Depending on the website or app, you may create a Passkey either during the registration process or later through the account security settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to generate the Passkey.
- The system will prompt you to save the Passkey in SafeInCloud. Confirm this selection to ensure it is stored securely. The key will be saved in SafeInCloud and synchronized with the cloud.
- You can find all stored Passkeys in the 'Passkeys' category within SafeInCloud.
Authentication with a Passkey
To log in to a website or an app with a Passkey:
- Open a website or an app that supports login with a Passkey (some websites/apps with Passkey support can be found here).
- Navigate to login page and select login with Passkey option.
- The system prompt will display available Passkeys saved in SafeInCloud. Select the desired account to log in.
- Authenticate in the SafeInCloud app when prompted.
You will be logged in automatically.
Cross-device Passkey usage
Passkeys allow seamless sharing and authentication across devices. If you need to create Passkey or use saved in SafeInCloud Passkey on another device (e.g., a PC or tablet):
- On the new device, open the website or app and select the option to create Passkey or sign in with Passkey.
- Choose "Use another device" when prompted.
- A QR code will appear on the screen.
- On your phone, use the system camera to scan the QR code.
- "Create a Passkey"/"Sign in with a Passkey" popup will appear—tap on it to proceed.
- Once confirmed, the Passkey will be saved in SafeInCloud or used for authentication on the new device.
